Earlier this year, the Sunday Times magazine ran a competition to win a luxury trip to Edinburgh courtesy of the team here at The Rutland Hotel. The lucky winners, Anne Hesleton and Don White, were collected from the airport by their exclusive chauffeur in his classic Jaguar. Doug from Travelex Online would transport them from A to B in style for the next 3 days. ‘A and B’ included spa treatments at Stobo Castle, lunch on the Royal Deck of The Royal Yacht Britannia, and a tour of the city’s most famous monument – Edinburgh Castle. At the end of each adventure-filled day, the couple returned to base camp in the luxury apartment at The Rutland Hotel, where they were treated to extravagant meals in the hotel’s award winning eateries, Kyloe and The Huxley. One evening, they were even treated to a bespoke 3-course menu cooked in their apartment by Head Chef Dave Haetzman, with matching wines presented and served by our own wine- aficionado Steven Strachan! We can’t think of a better way to experience our beautiful city and we are delighted to say that Anne and Don were in complete concurrence…

The itinerary was absolutely spot on – action packed but time for relaxation (and shopping) too. Doug, [the chauffeur] was so lovely, I really wanted to take him home with us (Fiona & the girls may have objected!)
The Royal Yacht was so interesting & lunch on the [Royal]Tea Deck was a special treat.
What can we say about Stobo? – Just fabulous
The icing on the cake though has to be The Rutland itself. The apartment – OMG!! What an absolute dream – the décor, the Arran Aromatics toiletries, Nespresso coffee maker, the heated bathroom floor!! We could go on & on.
Whoever was responsible for the Welcome hamper deserves a big hug. Champagne, chocolates (but not any old chocolate – Hotel Chocolat), a scented candle are obvious treats but how could you know that I keep a travel journal? There, nestled amongst the tissue was an Edinburgh notebook just waiting for me to record our adventures – perfect.
So thank you both for all your hard work & please pass on our thanks to absolutely everyone who made our stay so wonderful. We will be back!”
